CLINICS

When you want to work on and improve specific skills, we offer a number of different technical clinics through-out the year.  Topics include:  fitness, multi-pitch climbing, rappelling, self-rescue, rescue, falling, movement and technique, women’s clinics, and more.  In addition to scheduled clinics, parties of 2 or more may schedule any of clinics at any time.  Just give us a call and we’ll set it up.  Advanced registration and deposit is required for all clinics.

Women’s Series

This is designed for beginner and intermediate climbers.  Curious about the art of rock climbing? Do you have experience, but would like to explore more in the company of other women with experienced instructors? Join us for a six week women’s clinic and explore topics such as the history of women in climbing, belaying, technique, terminology, physical/mental training. These are 6-week programs introducing women to rock climbing in a welcoming environment. 

When:  January 8th – February 12th, 2018 (FULL)

Rescue Clinic

One fear many people can have is what happens when things go wrong.  It is our goal in our teaching to help you to first, prevent a rescue situation from arising.  However, the unforeseen does happen and when it does, we want you to be ready.  This two-day clinic teaches lifesaving information of both self-rescue and how to rescue a friend.  The clinic focuses on knots, prusiks, lowering techniques, and pulley systems.

When:  offered on a by-request basis with a minimum of two participants.  Clinic is 2 four hour sessions.

Falling

We hope you never do — but falling is an integral part of climbing.  Whether it is bouldering or rope climbing, knowing how to fall and how to land are important.  We want you to know what to do in the event of a fall.  If the thought of falling is frightening, or the thought of a planned fall makes your palms sweat, they probably still will after this clinic, but you will have the confidence to know what to do.  This Falling Clinic has something to offer everyone.  Our goal is to not only tackle the art of falling, but also the mental game that goes along with it.

Crack Climbing Fundamentals

Planning to go to the City of Rocks, or Indian Creek, Lover’s Leap, or Yosemite?  If you go, you will be crack climbing, and without help it is daunting.  The transition from face climbing to crack climbing can be scary and frustrating.  However, our crack staff can help prepare you and sharpen your skills.  This class teaches not only hand, foot, and balance techniques, but how to place gear for trad and sport climbing.

Movement and Technique

In rock climbing, strength is important — but it’s not everything.  More often than not, how you move on the rock makes the difference between success and floundering.  We will help you learn movement patterns and strategies for maximizing your abilities; conserving strength and refining technique and giving you a different mental approach.

Anchor and Route Cleaning

A fundamental aspect of rope climbing is cleaning the route and anchor placement and cleaning.  It is imperative climbers know how to do it properly.  This clinic takes you through all the steps and variations of setting an anchor and cleaning, so when you’re at the top of a pitch, you can retrieve your gear and get back to the ground safely and efficiently.  The emphasis of this clinic is primarily for sport climbing.

Rappelling

Rappelling is one of the basic skills of climbing — how to get safely down.  Rappelling is not to be taken lightly.  It is fun and frightening at the same time.  Our Rappelling clinic will teach you how to safely utilize this indispensable skill for rock climbing, canyoneering, or even safely portaging a raft.  In this clinic you will learn the skills and methods of proper rope handling and technique.

Leading

You’ve learned how to tie-in, to clean a route, and anchor, and you can safely rappel back to ground level.  Let’s learn what it’s like on the sharp end of the rope.  This clinic teaches the mental attitude and physical skills to help you achieve your next level of climbing.  We teach physical training, judgment, proper and safe methods of setting pro.  The primary emphasis of this clinic is on sport routes; however, pro placement for trad climbing is included.  This clinic is a minimum 2 — 2 hour sessions indoors and a field trip, if requested.

Multi-Pitch Climbing

This is the culmination and highlights of rock climbing — how to safely set anchors, switch leads, and proceed safely and efficiently up a cliff.  Leading a single pitch is a thrill, climbing to the top of the Classic Route on Lost Arrow Spire at the City of Rocks (a 2 pitch 5.7) is outstanding.  This clinic takes all you learned in the leading clinic to the next level, and the next level.  Adherence to safety, anchor placement, gear placements and pro, and rappelling (Lost Arrow is a 150′ free rappel — it is thrilling).
